2 – Unicef.org /uk

Are you Celebrating World Breastfeeding Week? (Aug 1st - 7th) Here are 5 great sites and resources that really bring home why Breastfeeding is so important!

The UK division of Unicef has outlined the weeks activities in a handy, link heavy post that directs you through the educational delight that is World Breastfeeding Week.

I love Unicef for many reasons, least of which is their main purpose:

UNICEF’s mission statement. UNICEF is mandated by the United Nations General Assembly to advocate for the protection of children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential.

As for what they do, their FAQ page answers that as well:

In cooperation with governments and non-governmental organizations (NGOs),UNICEF saves and protects the world’s most vulnerable children, working to ensure child rights and providing health care, immunizations, nutrition, access to safe water and sanitation services, basic education, protection and emergency relief.

Unicef is a WORLD wide organization, with branches spanning throughout the globe. While there have been recent scandals and failings associated with the behemoth, the ultimate goal and heart of the association seem genuine.

3 – Unicef.org/USA

The American Division of Unicef lacks the full range of the UK World Breastfeeding Week page, yet it is still worth a visit. Stories abound, bringing to light the achievements of mothers through out the country, and what an impact Breastfeeding makes.

4 – Huffington Post

The Huffington Post has changed in recent years, yet this article featured in the Canadian Division holds promise and inspiration.

A collection of 5 empowering stories from a Hockey player mom to Midwives who said ‘NO’ to the bottle, this piece pulls together a wealth of tales sure to make you smile. What better way to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week?

5 – #WorldBreastfeedingWeek on Instagram

While NOT an article, searching for #WorldBreastfeedingWeek on Instagram will fill up your breastfeeding bucket and delight the eyes. Women (and men) from ALL over the world are sharing their inspiring pictures, stories and experiences. It’s love at first glance and empowering to boot.
